Podcast Script Hello, today I am going to explain the focus of BBC Radio 1 Xtra.
First of all we need to identify the target audience. The target audience for Radio 1 Xtra, I believe, is from around 15 - 24 just because of the music that is played over the station. The station plays mostly rap music which has gained an appeal from the younger generation. Another reason for the target audience is because of the age of the presenters. Most of the presenters seem to be fairly young (20s - 30s) and this makes it easier for the younger audience to connect with the presenters as the presenters may have a similar taste of music as the audience.
Now we need to look at how the station appeals to the audience. As I said earlier, things that may attract and appeal to the audience will be the music played and the presenters being quite young but another thing that will appeal to the audience is a show called ‘Fire in the booth’. This is where rather unknown rappers come in and preform a piece. It is hosted by Charlie Sloth who is one of the presenters on 1 Xtra and he is 30 years old which reinforces the fact that the presenters on 1 Xtra are fairly young. Another appealing factor of Radio 1 Xtra is that sometimes they will bring in a high profile rapper to preform.
Finally we need to look at how the radio station is formatted and structured. If we look at the schedule of 1 Xtra, we will see that on week days, the schedule is mostly the same with the morning starting at 6:00 with A.Dot and this is followed by Ace at 10. After this it goes into the afternoon which is started with Newsbeat at 12:45. This is then followed by Yasmin Evans at 1 and then MistaJam at 4 and to end the afternoon, Newsbeat is on again at 5:45. The Evening show is started with MistaJam at 6 and this runs for an hour which is then taken over by DJ Target at 7. At 9 Charlie Sloth comes on with his show “The 8th with Charlie Sloth” and this runs until 11 and the day is ended by a different person each day. There is a late/early period with shows at 1 and 3 in the morning and these are different everyday. The only days that are different is Fridays where Charlie Sloth’s show is replaced by something else and weekends which are almost completely different.
Analyse the structure and content of a programme broadcast by a chosen radio station
Fire in the Booth is a programme which is run on BBC Radio One Xtra by Charlie Sloth. It gets 'big names and rising stars' to come in and freestyle rap. It's primary purpose is to entertain but it is also a good tool to inform you of new rappers who are beginning to make their way into the business. Because this is the BBC, the show won't have any adverts in it (unless it's for other BBC shows). Instead the BBC will make money through TV licences and taxes. They may also receive donations and funding from other organisations. It is shown as part of the One Xtra Rap show and it's shown on a Saturday evening.
