P1: Explain different ideas for an original media product based on a client brief and M1: Discuss strengths and weaknesses of the different ideas (With the Prezi)
The brief stated that our TV Drama is going to be on BBC 3 so I did some research into the BBC and BBC 3.
I found that the average audience of BBC 3 shows is around 16 - 36 year olds. The shows that are shown on here are mostly comedies and TV dramas but they also show documentaries.
The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) is a public service broadcaster that makes content that caters for everyone. They are funded by TV licences. BBC 3 is a channel (moved online in 2016) that produces shows that is for a teenage audience (16 - 36). The BBC said for BBC 3 that it was going to consist of UK dramas with new talent meaning that their dramas made by UK companies with actors fairly new to the business. This helps save money on otherwise expensive TV Dramas. For the BBC, TV Dramas can cost between £50k - £1m per hour. A low budget show (like ours) will be at the lower end of the spectrum (£50k). BBC3s main competitor is ITV.

A TV Drama is the creation of events in a fictional world and atmosphere. They specialise in connecting with the audience, producing characters and stories that are relatable in a fictional world. Good examples of TV Dramas could be Doctor Who (BBC) and Merlin (BBC). TV Dramas don't have to have a supernatural aspect to them, some can be set in the modern time or in the past. A good example of this could be The Crown (Netflix) or Broadchurch (ITV).
The Main competitor for the BBC is ITV. It's channels are just as well known as the BBC and they have many rivalling shows such as Downton Abbey and Broadchurch.
Setting - The setting could be fairly familiar to viewers who have gone exploring in Africa. It could also be a familiar sight if you've been exploring anywhere just because of the atmosphere.
Narrative - The scene focuses on Prince Philip helping the Queen escape from a wild elephant. It also focusses on their love for each other and it shows what Philip will do to protect his wife. Because it's only a 2 minute scene in an hour long episode, there isn't too much that happens but what does happen is good for the rest of the story as it starts to show the love for the royal couple which helps create tension later in the series for when there's conflict between them. There is also a part where the tour guide is going to distract the elephant to let the Queen and Philip escape, Philip then orders him to get the Queen to safety and he will cover them. This shows that people are willing to sacrifice things for the crown and shows that they do have power and influence despite what the general public think.
Characters - The scene is focused around Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. There are other characters such as the tour guide but the scene is focused around the Queen and Philip.
Spider Diagrams
These are some of my ideas for an original TV drama. I have tried to come up with ideas that are intriguing and are appropriate for the target audience. I have also tried to make them different but also similar to other successful Teen Dramas so I can try and copy the good aspects of them while also creating original content. I have also tried, with the Rasputin idea especially, to include factual information such as history. This gives people who watch it another reason to watch it as it gives them knowledge that could help them in the future and investors another reason to invest in the shows as they can be seen as slightly educational as well as entertainment.
Moodboards
I chose these images because I feel that they are relevant to what the stories are mainly about and tells the main synopsis of what these shows are about. They should also help you get an idea of what to expect while watching. For the Rasputin moodboard, it has pictures of the characters as well as some hints at magic (the book) as well as the rising Soviet Union. For the Suitcase moodboard, it has a picture of teens who would be the main focus of the show as well as a secret group of people, a suitcase with sensitive info, a route map as well as armed police who would be hunting the teens throughout their journey.
Conclusion
After reading over the brief and talking about my ideas to a few friends and family members, I have decided to expand "The Suitcase" further as it not only fits the brief better but the storyline is more clear than that of "Rasputin" and it is more relatable and relevant to current times.
