P3: Develop ideas for sound elements for an identified purpose
The idea is to promote this museum in Pegwell Bay. To do this I will begin with sounds of Caesar’s landing with swords clashing, waves crashing and so fourth. This will be followed swiftly by an extract of Caesar’s journal which will be read out by an actor. The advert will end with the relevant information being read out by a narrator and the advert will end with a small jingle. There will be dramatic roman style music playing in the background throughout the advert to further give the feeling of a roman invasion and give the audience a small taster of what the museum is like. I believe my idea meets the brief as it includes all sound elements that are required. There will be a music bed playing throughout the advert, that is relevant to the era, and there are also sound effects that will give the listener a feel of what it would be like if they were in the battle. I have also decided to include an actor reading an extract from Caesar’s journal to give the viewers the understanding of what this museum is about and the type of man Caesar was. There will also be a different actor reading out the information near to the end so viewers understand the person reading the extract was playing Caesar.
P4: Generate planning materials for an identified purpose
M1: Identify solutions to the legal and ethical issues for productions
There are a few legal issues to clear up before the production is released. First there is the concept of music. I will only use music from a copyright free source. This is to avoid having to pay PPL/PRS which can be rather expensive. It will also avoid us having to ask for permission which can be a difficult. There is also the issue with voices. I have only used one voice actor. I will need to get him to sign the Voice Over release form seen bellow. If this is not done, the actor could sue as they could claim that they didn't give permission for me to use the voice. The release form also allows me to call them back in to record any additional lines if needed. If you're filming a production, you still need to actors to sign a release form but it's a good idea to include ADR in the contract as calling actors back in to do ADR can be expensive.
If we were to use copyrighted music, we would have to pay PPL/PRS which, as I said, can be rather expensive. PPL/PRS makes sure that artists are paid when their music is played publicly. This includes radio, TV and adverts. As I said, to combat this, I will use copyright free music as then I will not have to pay PPL/PRS.
