Script
INT – Arty Alex’s attic in his house.
Arty Alex is in his attic. His attic is long and fairly high. There is a fan on the roof as well as a few lights dangling from the ceiling. There are a few windows but the most noticeable one is the one at the end of the room. It is a giant circular window that can see out far into the distance. There is a desk in front of it where some globes are stationed as well as a few boxes and cups of paintbrushes, pens and pencils. Along one side of the wall there is a giant shelving unit full of boxes and books as well as a few small canvases both used and fresh. There are also some globes and boxes lying in front of the shelves.by the boxes there is a pile of rolled up pieces of paper and some bits of paper laid out across the floor. On the opposite side there is a canvas stand where Alex paints pictures. Beside it is a little desk, which has a bookstand on it, and on it is a large paper book where he draws sketches of what he is going to paint or build next. Next to the canvas stand, opposite the side of the desk, there is a small filing cabinet full of previous sketches and ideas. They also contain some photographs from his past. There are a few small stalls littered around the room. Some he uses to stand on, some to sit on or rest things on. There are a few paintings on the wall. There is one next to the big circular window of a collapsing sun on the eve of becoming a black hole. On the opposite side there are a few shelves with small boxes and tubs containing paper and coloured pencils. There is also a small globe on the top shelf, one of the smallest he has ever created. Looking through the window there are beautiful hills and a bright blue sky with a few white puffy clouds, some quite larger than others. Arty Alex is standing by the canvas stand, which has a canvas on it. He is drawing his house. He is taking great care, as he doesn’t want to make any mistakes. Suddenly he has an arm jolt and makes a large black line across the page. The painting is ruined. Alex, in anger, scribbles all over the page. As he turns round to get another canvas, the scribble starts to move then jumps out of the painting and starts to run amok around the art room
ARTY ALEX Not again…
Arty Alex runs around after the scribble trying to catch it. All of his attempts fail so then he has an idea. He goes up to the canvas the scribble came from and draws a net. Alex then pulls the net from the painting and then tries to use it to catch the scribble. Alex frantically swings the net around in attempt to catch the scribble sometimes knocking things over. He then makes a leap for the scribble and catches it in his net. The scribble puts up a fight as it starts to franticly move around inside the net sometimes pulling Alex from side to side. Alex, knowing he can’t continue to hold the scribble in the net, decides to draw a large metal bin. He pulls the bin out and throws the net inside and puts on the lid. He holds the lid down for a few seconds. As he begins to let go of it, the bin starts to move slightly. Alex quickly puts his hands back on the bin. He then picks up the bin and throws it into the canvas. The bin has gone into the canvas and has become the painting. Alex sighs.
ARTY ALEX Next time I’ll just put a line through it.
He then turns around and gets a plain canvas and puts it on the canvas stand and starts to draw again.
I may need to rewrite the script for when it comes to production.
